The situation with COVID-19 is ever-changing, however I want to assure you that Doula Mae Birth Services continues to be available in supporting growing families. I believe an expectant family seeking support anytime during pregnancy, birth, or postpartum should have access. Doula Mae Birth Services is now happily offeringvirtual supportand professionally filmed online/hybrid classes.
Different Birthing Locations
Hospital Birth is still very much a chosen option for many expectant families. However, many hospitals have restricted support to ONE healthy person to ensure the safety of their staff and patients. The following hospitals are currently welcoming TWO healthy support people (partner + professional doula) to be present in-person:
HealthPartners (Methodist, Regions)
Allina Health (Buffalo, Mercy, Abbot, United)
Hennepin Health (HCMC)
Centra Care S̶t̶.̶ ̶C̶l̶o̶u̶d̶, Monticello *case by case, speak with your provider for approval
PLEASE speak with your care provider and inform them of your doula (and back up doulas) name. There may be paperwork to submit via email. You can contact Samantha at anytime with questions on how to move forward in this process.
Out of Hospital Birth is growing in popularity as many hope to stay out of a situation where COVID-19 exposure is of higher risk and/or birth preferences may not be met (having your ideal support system). This is a great option for most families, particularly those who are experiencing a low-risk pregnancy.
All free-standing birth centers in the Twin Cities and Central Minnesota are welcoming TWO healthy support people (professional doula). If you would like to explore this option I recommend researching and connecting as soon as you can. Here is the list of options:
Self-isolating: I only leave my home to spend time outdoors with my family, attend medical appointments, and support students/clients. I limit errands to those that are essential and utilize curbside pick-up, drive through, or delivery whenever possible.
Masks: I wear cloth masks any time we're going anywhere, including any time I am with my clients. I have surgical masks to use while attending births.
Virtual and/or socially-distanced meetings: Consultations are conducted over video chat and whenever possible, I provide virtual prenatal and postpartum meetings. When meeting in-person (except for your labor/birth), I am only bringing the bare minimum of personal items and will remain at least 6 feet away from you when possible.
Hand washing and disinfecting: I have always been vigilant about hand-washing, but I am even more conscious now. I also clean any personal items (phone and keys) when I get home and change clothes after being in any shared space.
Following facility requirements: As always, I am following all facility hygiene and protection requirements when attending births, such as wearing a mask and gloves, limiting contact with shared surfaces/items, and anything else requested.
